Scope of Work:

Armstrong International has performed, through its local representative Energy West Controls, for Hill Air Force Base a steam system optimization program.

Upgrade Projects:

  • Failure recognition and replacement of the 4000 steam traps on the base

  • Ongoing sustaining engineering, including a Best In Class Steam Trap Optimization Program to sustain savings achieved through the optimization process

  • Availability of on-site steam system optimization expertise to recognize additional steam savings proposals


The total value of this agreement is $500,000.


This fi ve-year agreement began in 2002 and will continue until 2007.


  • Substantially reduce utility operating costs
  • Provide extra savings to help fund other energy saving infrastructure improvements Hill Air Force Base elects
  • Reduce unscheduled maintenance and unscheduled outages
  • Armstrong and Energy West combined savings from the steam trap replacement and the other energy conservation projects proposed to generate an energy conservation measure that met the payback requirement of the Air Force Region 5 Energy Savings Performance Contract.
