Could It Be God Speaking?

A new artist, Mandisa, sings a song that ushers me into the presence of God like no other in a long time.  The title is "God Speaking" and if you have not had the opportunity to hear this song, please find it somewhere, quietly listen without being interrupted, and enjoy God speaking to you.

Here are the words:   Have you ever heard a love song that set your spirit free _ Have you ever watched a sunrise and felt you could not breathe _ What if it's Him _ What if it's God speaking _ Have you ever cried a tear you could not explain _ Have you ever met a stranger who already knew your name _ What if it's HIm _ What if it's God speaking _ Who knows how He'll get a hold of us _ Get our attention to prove He is enough _ He'll do it and He'll use whatever He wants to _ to tell us I love you.  Have you ever lost a loved one who you thought should still be here _ Do you know what it feels like to be tangled up in fear _ What if He's somehow involved _ What if He's speaking through it all _ His ways are higher _ His ways are better _ through sometimes strange _ what could be stranger than God in a manger _ God is speaking _ I love you.

God speaking is not a new concept.  In fact, the entire Bible is full of God speaking to those He has created.  He walked with Adam and Eve in the cool of the day and they heard His voice.  God spoke through animals and spoke directly to humans.  He spoke to Elijah in 1 Kings chapter 19:12, not in a great and strong wind strong enough to break rocks into pieces, not in an earthquake, and not in the fire.  God spoke to Elijah in a "still small voice."

"A still small voice?"  It was as if God was whispering to Elijah who was living in fear for his life.  A whisper makes you stop everything around you so you can hear.  The noise must stop.  Movement must stop.  Interference must stop.  It all must stop as you strain to hear a whisper.

Could it be God speaking?  Or, have we ruled out the possibility because we are too knowledgeable, too sophisticated, too much into "self" to hear God speaking to our hearts.  You know to get to your heart, God speaks through your mind first?  It is in the vastness of our superior minds that we discard the whisper of our Creator.

So, when did we stop listening?

Maybe we could stop?  Stop long enough to listen for a moment?  Past all the business of the day?  Past trying to make it here without God and determine to include God in every decision, every step, every breath we breathe?

Could it be God speaking?
