I was on my way to the hospital in Kalamazoo last Friday afternoon lost in my thoughts and prayers for some very tough situations I knew I would face once I arrived there. During the trip, my cell rang twice and I talked to those who were faced with a crisis of their own. I began to pray even harder.
It is amazing how an automobile can turn into the throne room of God. It doesn't really matter if we are in a car, a plane, on a train, in the middle of the ocean, or quietly laying in our beds at night. When we pray, God hears our cries for help.
I looked up at the Sun and thinking of my Dad, who passed late last year, whom I always ran to for comfort, prayer, and guidance, I whispered this question? "How are things on the other side of the Sun?"
Now, God doesn't just let a question go unanswered, even if it was whispered. In a quiet, soothing, comforting, loving, voice, God spoke to my heart and reminded me that it is not life on the other side of the Sun that matters, it is life on the other side of the His Son that counts.
Each of us has to face a reality. There is life before having God in our lives and there is life after having God in our lives. Let me explain further.
Jesus Christ and no other comes between us and God the Father. Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one gets to the Father except by going through Jesus. He is the door. He is the strong gate that blocks admittance into the very presence of the Father. You cannot force your way in, climb over the wall, or dig under the wall to get in. You cannot pay enough with good works or wheelbarrows full of money to get past Jesus. You must go through the door. That door is Jesus Christ, the Only begotten Son of God.
My question should have been, "How is life on the other side of the Son?" Now that is a very cool thought indeed.
If I keep my sights on the other side of the Son, then the things that happen down here become less important. Less painful. I remember to look past the present and focus on the future. I do all I can to please God the Father by praising God His Son and being obedient to His will and His command.
Which side of the Son are you on? Maybe, somewhere on your pilgrimage, you have found yourself knocking on that door named Jesus. He promised if you knocked, He would open. He will let you in with joy in His heart.
