In the beginning, back in Genesis, God created man from the dust of the earth. As God held in His hands His perfect creation, it was with true love that He breathed into man's nostrils the breath of life. Man became a living being. Man was created to have fellowship with God, his Father.

From this man, Adam, God then chose to create a companion for him. A female companion. She was created from a rib from Adam's body, closest to his heart.  Eve was comparable to Adam and they were equal.

They walked in the garden unashamed and guilt free as they had not yet chosen to sin against God's command. In the cool of the day, God, their Father, walked with them, talked with them, and they must have had such a wonderful time as Adam and Eve observed all the wonderful things God had made with His own hands for them to enjoy.

It all changed in an instant when Adam and Eve both willingly chose to sin and rebel against God's command.  Physically their bodies began to die.  Mentally they began to try to shift the blame to someone other them themselves to avoid the guilt of their shame.  The seed of their bodies was tainted as their blood became impure.  The seed of their bodies is you and I.

Man went from eternal life to spiritual death.

How could man find God again?  How could man bridge that gap created by the original sin?  Would his wealth do it?  His good works?  His outstanding moral and ethical behavior?  His possessions?  His number of children?  His attendance in church?  None of these would ever be good enough.

It would cost someone their life.  A sacrifice would have to be made.  Jesus, the only begotten Son of God, stepped forward and said "I will go!  I will go for them!  I will provide the way, the truth, and the life." 

What do you gain when you choose to follow the Lord Jesus Christ?  Something happens when you are born-again.  Jesus Christ is life, eternal life.  To receive Jesus Christ gains something that was lost back in the garden of Eden.  It is a paligenesis - a spiritual change from spiritual death to eternal life.

Only through Jesus the Christ can you find God again and be restored to fellowship.  Only through Jesus will you pass from death to life.
