Have you ever been watching a movie where the actors and actresses are out in a desert somewhere? In watching, have you slowly felt your throat getting dry and you rush to the kitchen for a glass of cool water?
Maybe you are watching the travel channel and they are displaying all the wonderful food they offer on cruise ships? You might be even doing something else besides watching the television, hear a commercial about a food item you have not experienced, and suddenly you are driven to the kitchen once more to invade the refrigerator and cupboards.
How sad we humans are, huh? The power of suggestion can change our direction and bring to crash any diet we hoped to maintain.
Well, in light of the power of suggestion, have you given thought to the words spoken by a minister on TV, radio, or from the pulpit of your own church?
In the Beatitudes as recorded in Matthew chapter 5, Jesus made a statement that catches my attention daily. In verse 6 we read: "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled."
For me, it begs the question, "Are you so hungry and thirsty for God and His leading, you are willing to seek His face with all you have in your being?" If I am that hungry and thirsty, I have God's promise that I will be filled.
What are you drinking in today? What are you eating? Worldly promises that are built on a foundation of sand? Material things that you display, hoping everyone notices to see how successful you have become? Maybe you are drinking in "position" hoping you have finally reached the top? Top of what? A stack of things that will not truly matter in the end?
To hunger and thirst for righteousness means I look to the Word of God for the truth of how to live my life. It involves change. A heart change and a mind change. It involves running from the things that distract us and running to the throne of God Almighty.
Running. Running to or away from something. Running means you are quickly escaping the sin that easily besets you and running to God, who forgives our sins. The more you run, the thirstier you get and the more of the truth you want to eat. Running to the righteousness of God means you have the promise of being filled.
