Looking out from the blanket that wrapped around his head to block the bright morning Sun light, my son Aidan's big blue eyes were locked on mine. His Mom and I were dropping him off for another day at work. I always whisper in his ear, "Daddy will be back!"
Over the past weekend, after visiting our oldest son Scott and his family in Tennessee, as we were saying our "goodbyes", my son and I locked our eyes knowing it would be another long time before we would actually see each other face to face.
My son Brian and I, just like all our boys, hug each other when we are parting and again, lock our eyes for that gaze that says "I love you and will see you again soon".
The last time my father and I saw each other before he passed, he locked eyes with me, and I knew what he was thinking without him saying a word. "Daddy will be back! Even if I leave you soon, I will see you again!"
For all of these times I am always reminded of the words of our Savior when he promised He would be back. If Jesus could stand before you, as He did His disciples, and lock eyes with you, and you with Him, you would see His promise to be true. He never lied to anyone. He never mislead anyone. What Jesus said was truth and truth absolutely.
In John chapter 14, verse 3, Jesus said "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself." This is the promise we can stand on, in faith. "Daddy will be back." Since those who believe in Jesus Christ become sons of God, I can call Him Daddy and there is no disrespect in any way in this title.
There is no promise when we, as humans, lock eyes with someone when we are leaving them, that we will ever see them again in this life. There are many who sent off to war who promised they would be back, but never returned. Many have left each other without even a hug or glance, only to wish they had held their loved one's close for a moment, but lost that chance.
Lock eyes with someone today. Notice them. Remember them. Most importantly, do not miss the opportunity to hold them close for a moment before you leave them. If God wills, you will see them again before you or they pass.
Lock eyes with the Savior. Do not miss this opportunity to see Jesus for whom He truly is ... God's only begotten Son who will return soon.
