Born Broken

All of our lives we have tried to put together a puzzle with pieces missing.  We build relationships with people and borrow the pieces of their puzzles, trying to hammer them into a place that has a different shape, and they never quite fit our puzzle.  In frustration, we search and search for those lost pieces.

One piece is shaped like money.  Another piece is shaped like the perfect mate.  Other pieces are shaped like children.  Many pieces can be shaped like jobs and we try and try to make those pieces fit into this thing we call the puzzle of life.  A car is the shape of another piece.  A house another.  Possessions have pieces that are oddly shaped and there can be many of these.

When none of these things seem to fit, dangerous pieces are added.  These pieces have shape corners.  Drastically cut edges that slice your hands when you handle them.  They leave you cut and bleeding.  Wounded.  Some of the pieces are burned on the edges.  These are the pieces of alcohol, drugs, sex, and avarice (one's desire to have wealth and riches).

The truth is we were born broken.  Broken because of original sin.  We spend the rest of our lives from birth trying to make the pieces fit.  When all is said and done, there is one piece always missing and each of us has to find that piece to make it fit in our own puzzle and complete our picture.

Only one piece.  It has a shape of its own.  None other are like this piece.  None other will fit properly.  It is in the shape of Jesus, the Christ.  He is the piece that shows the only Way.  He is the only piece that shows the absolute Truth.  He is the only piece that can give you eternal life.

The Psalmist says in Psalm 31:12  "I am like a broken vessel.

Are you feeling broken today?  Are the pieces of your life scattered around you, laying on the ground?  Let God put you back together again.  Only He can truly do it.

My 2-1/2 year old boy, Aidan, and I, dump his puzzles and put them back together again.  When the puzzle is a little tougher for him, he says, "Daddy!  You do it!"

Why don't you try saying that?  "Daddy!  You do it!  Put me back together again and make me whole!"
