In Greek Mythology, there was a man who would woo traveler's in for a much needed rest. He offered all strangers a free night in his magical bed. The magic? The bed would fit any traveler, no matter how tall or short. It was perfect. A perfect lie.
What Procrustes didn't tell people was his nickname was "the stretcher". He would stretch the truth to live a lie. His bed of rest was a "one-size-fits-all". For the taller visitors, he would simply cut off their legs to make them fit. For the shorter visitors, he would stretch them to make them fit.
Procrustes eventually met his doom on his own bed by Theseus.
I heard recently on the radio an add for a religious speaker at an area college. His theme was "One God with many names". It fits the modern idea that all roads lead to Heaven. Procrustes has been brought back to life in a bed where all roads thus lead to the same place.
There is one way to Heaven, however. Actually, I should say there is one way to God the Father. It is "through" the Lord Jesus Christ and through Him alone.
You see, Jesus is the door. He said, He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, in John 13. Then, He also said, "No one comes to the Father except through Me." Jesus never stretched the truth. He did, however, show us the way to God the Father.
According to the Old Testament book of Ecclesiastes, chapter 12, verse 7, "Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it." What is this saying to you and I? Since our bodies were made from the dust of the earth, our bodies will return to the dust. But, our spirit will immediately stand before the door. The door is Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
Will Jesus let you in to see the Father? Only if you have been forgiven. Only in turning away from sin and receiving the Lord Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior will that door be opened, allowing you access into Heaven.
Procrustes was a liar and a myth. Jesus Christ never lied. Jesus is not a myth. He is the truth. He is the Way into Heaven. He gives you life. Life everlasting.
