On Saturday morning, July 21, 2007, I received a call from my mother-in-law that would change the life of my wife Amy and I forever. In Battle Creek, Michigan, a baby boy had been born to a couple who could not possibly keep him. Soon, he would go into the system of Foster Care.
Three hours after that phone call, I stood in a hospital room in Battle Creek, holding a blanket full of love with big blue eyes that were glued to mine. I was immediately overwhelmed with love for this little guy. We had to have him. Our home was missing just this very thing. God granted our prayers, hopes, and desires by giving us Aidan Konnor Lane to adopt.
In America there are over two million couples who want to adopt a baby. They go through the process and some wait for years before they have any success. For one baby, there are forty couples who are waiting for that opportunity. God brought this baby to us.
I praise God for this couple, the parents of our son, who did not follow the ranks of the millions who choose to abort the life of a so called "inconvenience". Out of every one-thousand babies born, only 15.5 infants are given to adoption.
God looked at our need, our desire, and heard our prayer by saving the life of Aidan. We will forever be grateful to God for this wonderful opportunity to raise this amazing gift of life.
You and I, as believers in Jesus Christ, have also been adopted into the family of God. We are the sons and daughters of God, the Father. He chose us and took us in as His adopted children. (See Romans 8:15; Romans 8:23; Galatians 4:5; & Ephesians 1:5)
Has God held you and looked into your eyes? Has He wrapped His arms of love around you and invited you to join His family? His first-born and only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, has made it possible for you to call out to God "Abba, Father" by giving His life for you by dying on a cross. God loves you that much.
Adoption. I never understood it truly until I held my adopted son in my arms. My love grows deeper for him everyday. I long to hear his voice and feel his embrace, just as much as my other sons. That is how God loves us. Even so much more!
