The Limitations of My Faith

Years ago, while I was Senior Pastor of a church in Sturgis, Michigan, I asked one of my deacons to join my on a hospital visit in Kalamazoo to see one of the ladies from our church who had had surgery a couple of days prior.

On the drive to the hospital, the deacon and I entered in to prayer for this lady.  Once we arrived, we prayed again before leaving the car.  Walking down the long hallway to her room, I was still praying.  We passed a room where a man's voice feebly called out, "Can you help me?"  Immediately, I turned around and went into the room where an elderly man lay.

"Can you help me?"  the man pleaded in great weakness.  I took the man's hand in mine.  The deacon stood just to my right side.  "Silver and gold, I have none.  But, such as I have I give to you.  In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, receive peace.  Now, rest my friend.  In Jesus name, rest."

Walking out of that room and down the hall, the deacon stopped me.  He was visibly shaken and asked,  "Why did you do that?  You did not know him.  You didn't even pray for his healing.  You just took his hand and prayed for the peace of God.  I have never seen anything like that before in my life."

"This gentleman is dying.  His heart was troubled.  His mind was not at rest.  He did not have peace with God.  You and I carry the peace of God that this world needs.  They need hope.  They need life, not lecture.  They need an impartation from the grace and mercy of God.  You and I, as believers, are ambassadors of Christ.  Who else will impart God's love if we do not?"

That great old man of faith, Smith Wigglesworth, an ex-plummer turned minister from England, once said this after praying for the deliverance of a demon possessed girl, "My faith began to penetrate the heavens.  If you want anything from God, you will have to pray into heaven.  That is where it all is.  If you live in the earth realm and expect to receive from God, you will never get anything.  I saw in the presence of God the limitations of my faith.  Then there came another faith - a faith that takes the promise, a faith that believes God's Word.  And from that presence, I came back to earth a different man.  God gave me a faith that could shake heaven."

You cannot please God ... without faith.  And even then, look at your faith and go beyond your limitations by a faith that has entered into heaven and you will return a different man or woman.  It is only then that you will have anything to impart to those who are in need.
