Wrinkles In Our Garments

Just ask the girls in my office and they will laugh and tell you I am not happy with my choice of shirts today.  I have not worn this white shirt for months.  Now, I know why?

Last evening, I ironed it perfectly.  Ask my wife and she will tell you I like my clothes to be "un-wrinkled".  I like my shoes shined and my gig-line straight (Gig-line is an old military term that dictates the line of your shirt to be perfectly lined up with the line on your zipper, sorry).  And, as far as my shoes, well, one day a few years ago, David Armstrong walked into my office while I was polishing my shoes with my favorite Kiwi Express Shine-Instant Shine Shoe Sponge and I was embarrassed I had been caught.  But, he loved it.

Now, back to this wrinkled garment I am so proudly wearing.  God has a way of reminding us of our condition, both inside and out.  Today, as I took off my coat to see wrinkles from my seat belt in my nicely ironed shirt, I was reminded of the wrinkles in our lives.

As a born-again Christain believer, one who is a disciple of Jesus Christ and His Holy Word, the Bible, we have been given something so beautiful.  The imputed righteousness of Christ.  Jesus Christ covers us with His righteousness as our righteousness is as filthy rags.  Christ covers us with perfect garments and robes.

First, we are clothed with the garment of salvation.  Our sins are covered and absorbed by the righteousness of God's Son, Jesus Christ.  God also covers us with the robe of righteousness, righteousness that, again, is imputed to us, as we were uncapable of producing such righteousness in ourselves.

With these beautiful and freeing garments given to us, is it any wonder we have been given a joy unspeakable with "... beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning , the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness ...?"

Yet, like my shirt, there can be wrinkles in our lives.  You know what they are, don't you?  When you read this, the Holy Spirit is already bringing to light your own wrinkles he has been ironing out so that you are more presentable when He presents you to His Father.

Got wrinkles?  Get Jesus!  Only Jesus Christ can clean you up, inside and out.  Then, when you become one of His children by adoption into this wonderful family of God, you too will be given beautiful robes and garments.  Without spot or wrinkle.
