Loving The World

1 John 2:15-17  "Do not love the world or the things in the world.  If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  For all that is in the world - the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life - is not of the Father but is of the world.  And the world is passing away, and the lust of it;  but he who does the will of God abides forever."

How did you feel when you read the scripture above?  I will be honest with you, something inside of me stirred a bit.  Deep down inside of me I noticed a feeling that I did not like too much.  I hate to admit it.  Probably should not admit it.  But, the truth is you probably felt the same thing if you desire to please God in your life and know you have a ways to go yet.

Some things still need to change.  It is all part of being transformed by the renewing of our minds.  We are changing from the world's thinking (the community of sinful humanity that possesses a spirit of rebellion against God) turning way from that which does not please God, to a loving God and doing His will.

So, how did you feel?  A little rebellious?  Maybe you saw the scripture reference and chose to forget reading it and went right to the body of this devotional.  If you did, please go back and read the verses again.  Meditate on them.  See if they bother you enough to examine your heart.

What does this world really have to offer you?  Everything here is temporary.  Your youth is temporary.  Your possessions are temporary.  Your money is temporary.  Your job is temporary.  Even your hair is temporary.  Your life is temporary.  It is just a vapor, extinguished all too soon.

Why love this world system?  Why try to live with one foot in Heaven and one foot tied to the world?  You know how it works?  You go out and drink and party on Saturday night, then Sunday you go to church.  Now that is a great way to live my friend.

God has told us this worldly way of thinking is passing away.  How will you live the rest of your days?  Pleasing God?  Pleasing the flesh?  Pleasing your friends?  Gaining the whole world at the cost of losing your soul?

It's Friday ... but, Sunday is coming!
