In the movie, Hook, there is a line drawn in the sand and the kids jump back and forth across that line taking sides with either Peter Pan or Rufio, depending on the benefits of each as they are shouted out. Finally, the benefits of following Peter Pan overtake those of Rufio and the majority jump across that line again to follow a new leader. But, they didn't make that choice until one little boy takes Peter Pan's face in his hands and looks very closely at the details of Pan's face to find the truth. Once the truth was known, they all jumped to Pan's side of the line, including Rufio.
That was fantasy. The truth can only be found by those who truly seek it out, study it, and finally, wait on God for that inner voice of the Holy Spirit that says, "Proceed! This is indeed My way, My truth, and My life."
Lines are drawn every day that you live. There is right. There is wrong. It would be so much easier if the lines were very distinct and clear. But, the line of right (or truth) and the line of wrong lie before us and it is up to us to choose which one to jump behind. Our decision does not change the line of right or wrong. Those lines remain the same. Sometimes we want to be in the middle. What a terrible place to live. So, what changes then?
We do!
If we choose to jump behind the line of wrong and in our hearts we know it is wrong, does it change the wrong for the better? I think not. It is still wrong and we are just on the wrong side of the line. It happens in our lives everyday as we make the choices in life. It happens in our workplace. In our homes. In our schools. In our churches. In our government. In our personal lives. Even in the board room.
We know it when we have chosen wrong. God's Holy Spirit convicts us, no matter how hard we try to silence Him. Silence the Holy Spirit long enough and He will eventually leave you alone to follow your folly.
In the Old Testament book of Joshua, chapter 24, Joshua gathered the people from all the tribes together and the Lord God said, "Your fathers dwelt on the other side of the flood in old time ... and they served other gods ... and I took your father Abraham from the other side of the flood."
Joshua makes these remarks, "now therefore fear the Lord and serve Him in sincerity and in truth and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood ... and serve ye the Lord ... choose you this day whom you will serve ... but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."
Which side will you choose today? Truth or half-truth? This is the question?
