A component of the State of Indiana’s Family and Social Services Administration, Richmond State Hospital is one of five behavioral healthcare facilities operated by the Division of Mental Health and Addictions.
Noted for its “cottage style” multiple building open campus layout Richmond State Hospital uses technology to support an older but still effective utility infrastructure common to a turn of the century design.
Relatively high mineral content water, variable campus loop hot water supply temperatures and pressures along with smaller re-circulation loops within the individual buildings which do not lose much temperature during zero demand “idling” periods challenged the traditional mechanical Thermostatic Mixing Valves (TMV).
The implementation of Building Automation System linked, hot water user safety measures which include 24/7 monitoring of campus loop and individual building water temperatures, pressures and flows indicated that a system upgrade to The Brain was desirable.
Take an online tour of residential building #417 at Richmond State Hospital complete with remote access to a web enabled BAS which even includes a webcam view of The Brain at work and let’s take a peek at how things have improved.

Western Michigan University (WMU) is a vibrant, nationally recognized student-centered research university with an enrollment of more than 26,000. WMU is focused on delivering high-quality undergraduate instruction, advancing its growing graduate division and fostering significant research activities.
WMU monitors all its utilities including hot water from central engineering across a fully integrated BAS.
WMU has long used Armstrong Flo-Rite-Temp™ Water Heaters in student residence, athletic facility and classroom/laboratory installations. Recently, the integration of The Brain with the Flo-Rite-Temp™ Water Heater creates a two temperature system and allows the complete water heating and mixing package to interface with the resident BAS.
Come for an online tour of a chemistry lab building at Western Michigan University and let’s take a look at how a top rated educational institution cares for its students and its employees. test

The University of Missouri-Columbia was founded in 1839 as the first public university west of the Mississippi River and is considered one of the nation's top-tier institutions. Mizzou has a reputation of excellence in teaching and research, and is the flagship campus of the four-campus University of Missouri System.
It is fitting then that Mizzou and Armstrong Hot Water Group are partnering to provide the campus with the very latest in digital domestic hot water controls. As the university's comprehensive Residence Life Master Plan is put into effect Mizzou has selected Armstrong to supply the master water temperature controls, and we have responded by providing the first field installation of the Big BrainTM Digital Recirculating Valve. (DRV)
Because this is the first installation of the Big BrainTM Armstrong has outfitted the system with a complete array of sensors to allow for remote monitoring of the system's operation. Come for an online tour of the first installed Big BrainTM and catch a glimpse into the future with the world's only Digital Recirculating Valve. Complete with a webcam see how this technology capably serves the students of a leading University.
