Selecting steam traps is the process of choosing the best type of steam trap for the system's application and pressure specifications.
Sizing is the practice of choosing the particular trap model that meets the load requirements of the application. The objective in sizing traps is to select one that can operate at the maximum differential pressure while being able to handle the predicted load at the minimum differential pressure.
Steam trap selecting and sizing can be accomplished in two ways: manually, using tables and situational factors, or electronically, using computer software.
