Sizing Examples

Problem #1

A dry-closed return system has supply pressure at 30 psig (2 barg) and has a return pressure of 0 psig (0 barg).

The return line must have a condensate flow rate of 2,000 lbs/hr (900 kg/h) at a pressure drop of 1/4 psi per 100 ft. (5.8 mmWC/m) Find the size of the return line.

Problem #2

With a supply pressure of 100 psig (7 barg) and a return pressure of 0 psig (0 barg), find the pipe size required to service a trap discharge of 2500 lbs (1135 kg) of condensate per hour.

The following table is expressed as imperial values. To view this table in SI metric units, click here.

a - For these sizes and pressure losses the velocity is above 7,000 fpm.

Select another combination of size and pressure loss.
